Mosi-y-tunya

The tradisional name for the Victoria Falls. It means clouds of thunder, slightly more appropriate to be honest. It is a display of the Power of our Heavenly Father, like few others. Beautiful!!
De traditionele naam voor de Victoria watervallen . Het beteken de wolken of donder, maar eigenlijk is het meer. Het is een tentoonstelling van de kracht van onze Hemelse Vader

Win-win-win

We just came back from two and a half weeks in South Africa- getting supplies and spending time with Ilne’s family. It took three hours before we were right back in the thick of things. Carl opened the front door, and I could hear in his voice as he called me that there was work waiting. A man was standing with his face covered in blood (sorry, not really a photo moment). He claimed to have been attacked and thrown off his bicycle. Never a dull moment.
We waren net terug gekomen van een vakantie naar Zuid Afrika, naast familie bezoek de mogelijkheid om vooraden in te slaan voor een veel betere  prijs. we hebben een hele goede tijd gehad. Na net drie uren weer bij huis te zijn staat de eerste man al weer aan de deur met een hevig bebloed gezicht. Volgens hem aangevallen op zijn fiets door enkele mannen (er zijn nu verschillende versies waar hij dronken was en gevalen is) maar goed een ritje naar het ziekenhuis.

 

We also noticed that some people were digging up the well across from our front gate. Wonderful, we thought, maybe they want to fix it.  No such luck. They were trying to dig out the pipes to use as goal posts for their soccer field.
Verder is de waterput voor ons huis opgegraven. De pomp is al enkele jaren niet meer in gebruik. We dachten hmmmm mischien gaan ze hem nu maken, maar nee de jongens wilden de oude pijpen gebruiken voor doelpalen.

 

So, what do you do? Do you preach at them, trying to make them see the long term consequences of their decision, or do you give them an alternative? Carl send someone after their practice to talk to them. If they were interested they could come do work for us as team, and we would supply the goal posts.
Zo wat doe je dan? preek je tegen hun , om hun een lang termijn visie te geven, of geef je een alternatief. Carl heeft iemand na hun voetbaltraining gestuurd, als ze geintereseerd waren konden ze een aantal karweien verichten als team en dan zouden wij pijpen kopen voor hun doelen.

 

So, they came working on the land for a few hours, weeding and moving an anthill. And in return they played their first game of the season with poles which are the envy of every other team in the area. The Paalmans become the Polemans;) And maybe, we are even able to save the waterwell. Win-win-win.
Zo hun hebben een aantal dagen gewerkt op het land om onkruid te wieden en een termieten bult te verwijderen. In ruil daarvoor konden zij hun eerste wedstrijd met echte doelen spelen wat een droom is voor de vele teams in het gebied. Hopelijk kunnen we de waterput renoveren zodat hij weer bruikbaar wordt.

 

Sometimes we have to be creative with the opportunities that come our way. “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Eph 5:15-16)
Let er dan op dat u voorzichtig wandelt niet als onwijzen maar als wijzenen gebruik de tijd goed omdat de dagen boos zijn. (Efe5:15-16)
 

South Africa

With many kilometers under the wheels, many blessings bestowd, we are back home. We had a lovely time catching up with family. We spend a few days spastically trying to get supplies, then a weekend on the farm with an old friend:
Na vele kilometers gereden te hebben zijn we weer in huis. Samen met vele zegeningen die we mochten ontvangen in de laatste twee weken in Zuid Afrika. We hebben een fantastische tijd gehad samen met familie en vrienden.

Followed by two more spastic days of trying to finish everything.
En de laatste twee dagen hard rennen om allerlij dingen te kopen sinds zuid afrika de helft goedkoper is als Zambia

We are now thankful to be home, safe and back to work (a lot of it!)
We zijn dankbaar om wer thuis te zijn al ligt er veel werk te wachten.

Thank you Lord for all you have placed behind us, strengthening our arms. But help us to keep our eyes on You, following You wherever You may lead.
