New Paalman

We want to introduce you: Shally Paalman. A Labrador/staffie that has "taken over" our house. (Ilne: no, she is not coming into the house. 15 minutes later she was laying at her feet in our bedroom). Hopefully a good watch dog and alarm system against snakes. Shally is derived from Shalom, and we really hopes she turns out to be a peace loving dog. BUt whatever she is now part of the family.
We willen aan u voorstellen: Shally,. Een Labrador/mastiff wat ons huis heeft "overgenomen"(Ilne: nee hij komt niet in huis. 15 min later ligt hij aan Ilne's voeten in onze slaapkamer:). Hopelijk een goede wachthond en alarmeerder voor slangen.. Shally komt van shalom en hopelijk is het een vrede lievende hond

I think if we take the time to just sit and watch and study all the little miracles God have placed all around us, we will be so much more aware of His awesome power.
Ik denk als we de tijd nemenom net te gaan zitten en alle wondertjes gaan bestuderen wat God rondom ons heeft gemaakt , dan zullen we zoveel te meer zijn grootheid gaan zien

We zagen op een dag rare dingen in een boom hangen wat leek op schuim

A few days later we found this beautiful creature outside our house:

Reading up in our animal book, we discovered it is the frogs eggs in little foam houses in the tree. When the eggs hatch they drop into the pool of water under the tree.
Na ons dieren boek te hebben betuddert bleek het een kicker die schuimnesten in een boom boven het water maakt . Waneer de eitjes uitkomen vallen ze in het water. Prachtig

The other thing that has blown my mind here, is the transforming power of water.
This is the land behind our house when we came:
Het andere wat zo mooi is om te zien is de kracht van water. Na een paar goede  regenbuien.wordt heel het land omgevormd in ee grote groene zee

Rashelle to school

Rashelle started creche last week. She is doing really well- fully in english. Though her teacher understands Afrikaans, so if she really gets stuck she can always ask. Her teacher promoted her to school preparation class in her second week. She is loving it:
Rashelle  is met kleuterschool gestart. Het gaat erg goed met haar Engels al verstaat haar juffrouw Afrikaans zo als ze er echt niet uitkomt kan ze dat praten

She goes two days in the week, the rest of the time we learn together at home:
Ze gaat net tywee dagen per week, En Ilne geeft de rest les thuis. Tim was wel een beetje hartzeer om Rashelle naar school te brengen. Hij wou zelf ook.

Our maize is growing well. except for some plants who are now affected by the African stalk borer. We have now to find out how to treat them biological. Onze mais groeit goed behalbve dat somige planten een stam boorder hebben. we moeten nu uitvinden hoe om dat biologisch te behandelen

Tim had a small accident when he sat on the back of a bicycle. Thank God did not have too much pain afterwards. Tim had een klein ongelukje toen hij achter op een fiets zat, Dank God dat hij niet veel pijn na de tijd heeft gehad en dat het nu beter wordt

 

Who is this stranger in our home? Wie is die vreemdeling in ons huis?

Hopefully this will be our first lawn. Hopelijk wordt dit ons eerst gazon

Although we have now one big pasture around our house. The guy's in the back ground mowing it now by hand with a slasher. A flat piece of steel with a handle. The time it takes to mow all is probably more than two weeks for one person. I think we need a real brush cutter.

Al hebben we een en al weiland rond ons huis nu. demensen in de achtergrond maaien het nu bij hand met een slasher. Een plat stuk staal met een handel.Het kost meer dan twee weken de tijd voor een person om te maaien. Ik denk dat het tijd is voor een bosmaaier

We pulled down the last parts of a teachers home. We are in need of material for road building to make sure the road will be accessible through rain season. We also destroyed the home for many scorpions.

We hebben de laatste resten van een leraarswoning naar beneden gehaald. We hebben material nodig voor weg onderhoud in het regenseizoen om zeker te maken dat we  kunnen rijden. Tegelijkertijd  ook de schuilplek voor veel schorpioenen.

Two guest sleeping at our place. One of the dogs of friends of us who are on holiday got touched by a car. We took her to our home so we could give medicine. The other came a few days later for company. The children love having them.

Twee gasten die bij ons slapen. Een van de hondjes van vrienden van ons was geraakt bij een auto. We hebben hem naar huis meegenomen zodat we hem medicijnen konden geven . De ander kwam net voor gezelschap langs. De kinderen  genieten ervan.

The Christmas season has started. Even here the blinking lights and RED and GREEN balls follow us. We live in a time where the message is confusing, and our children are becoming old enough to ask questions: Christmas amounts to snow (while we’re sitting in 40 degrees Celsius), blinking lights and candles (which sounds good if you remember that the Afrikaans for Christmas literally means candle feast), and a big red man who’s eaten too much again, just like everyone else. People are running around madly to satisfy other people’s expectations. And I do not exclude myself.

So, should we celebrate Christmas? I’ve had some interesting discussions. And here is our choice: yes. BUT, we will not be calling it Christmas or candle feast, it needs to be called The Celebration of Jesus’ birth. We want Jesus in the center of our time together. We want to not focus on food, gifts, decoration or anything else, but really focus on the Lord Jesus Christ, and what He left behind to come to us, to save us.

Kerst tijd is begonnen. Ook hier vindt je de groene en rode kerstballen en versiering en de flikker lampjes. We leven in een tijd waar de boodschap verwarrend is. Onze kinderen nu ze ouder worden beginnen vragen te stellen. Er hoort toch sneeuw bij kerstfeest, en wie is die oom die zich rond gegeten heeft. Mensen rennen als gekken rond om aan de verwachting te voldoen die anderen stellen. En zelf ben ik daar ook schuldig aan.

Moeten we kerstfeest vieren? Ik had enkele interessante discussies daarover en hier is ons antwoord: Ja, maar we noemen het geen kerstfeest meer maar JEZUS GEBOORTEFEES. We willen Jezus geboorte centraal stellen en niet meer focussen op voedsel of cadeau’s, versiering of wat dan ook. Maar echt focussen op de Heere Jezus en zijn doel hier op waarom Hij naar de aarde kwam.

 So, in that light, we say: May you be filled with hope and love and peace as you celebrate Christ’s birth. May He be on the throne of your heart as you spend time with your family. May the stress of expectations not get to you, but rather the joy of God’s love for you.

Zo willen we zeggen: Mogen jullie gevuld zijn met de hoop en liefde en vrede als we Jezus geboorte vieren. Mag Hij op de troon in jou hart zitten als je samen met de familie bent. Mag de stress van verwachtingen verdwijnen en Gods vreugde in je hart zijn.

  

The shops are filled with GREEN, but to us GREEN has found another importance.

Carl has been meeting on Fridays with our group of neighbours who is the first guinea pigs in the application of Farming God’s way. So, when the first rains fell they were ready and got busy in the gardens:

De winkels zijn gevuld met groen en rood maar voor ons heeft dat een andere betekenis gekregen.

Carl heeft samen met een aantal buren op vrijdags middagen samengekomen om door de lesstof van behoudende landbouw te gaan. En na de eerste regens begonnen om een stuk land te bewerken (het land moet eigenlijk al klaar zijn voor de regens maar de grond was te hard).

  

As you can see, the land is divided in different parts. Every set of neighbours were given a small piece of land to experiment and see how the technics are working. We ourselves have used chemical fertilizer or manure and some compost as covering. We have covered some and left other spots bear. We have planted some in time and will plant others too late. All to show what works and what not.

Het land is verdeeld in vier stukken van 10x20 meter. Hierop zijn de plant gaten uitgehakt. Elk een heeft de vrijheid gekregen om te doen wat hij wil. Zo hebben wij een gedeelte met kunst mest, koemest diep en koemest oppervlakkig. Een gedeelte bedekt met mulch, (zoals behoudende landbouw adviseert) een gedeelte bedekt met compost en een gedeelte met niets om zo de verschillen te kunnen zien. De ene helft is geplant op de beste plantdatum  25 november en een ander deel gaan we een maand later planten. We hopen nu de verschillen te gaan zien al is het het eerste jaar, in de toekomst moet je duidelijk een verschil kunnen gaan zien.

So, by this past Friday:  O how beautiful! “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but GOD made it grow.” (1 Corinthians 3:6)

Afgelopen vrijdag was het zover, hoe mooi. “Ik heb geplant, Appolos heeft begoten, maar God heeft laten groeien”

 

 

 

Since the rain the GREEN has just been sprouting out everywhere, the whole landscape is changing. God’s power is just so visible. It made me think that he does exactly the same with us. We endure the hard times, then the seed dies, the water comes, the Living Water, and God’s eternal life sprouts in us and we grow.

Na de regens het groen spruit overal uit. Het hele landschap verandert. Gods kracht is zo zichtbaar. Het liet me denken dat het ook zo in onze levens gaat. Soms gaan we door moeilijke droge tijden dat we zo “dood” voelen en in andere tijden dat we fris en groen voelen in het geloof als God ons zegent met het Levende water.

Remember, that in this phase of the work, everything is geared towards showing how you can do more with less. How we can use what God has given us to live comfortably, without excess. We are not training people yet, but setting up the demonstration by living it ourselves. The next phase will be teaching to the pastors in the Hope Builders’ Training.We zijn druk bezig om zoveel mogelijk zelf voorzienend te worden om zo later in de bediening voorbeelden en ervaring te hebben. Op dit moment trainen we nog niet mensen. Dat zal de volgende fase zijn.

If the rain seriously starts we will have to go slower, everyone has been warning us about not being able to get out of here when the river comes down. We will see…

To end off we wanted to treat you with some of the joys of our lives:

1.   Our personal zoo (don’t worry I left out the snake;)):

 De jacht spin, lichaam 5 cm lang en verschrikkelijk snel kan lopen.

Een 20 cm lange duizendpoot. (liep een keer snachts over mijn hoofd) 

 Een prachtige vlinder met soort raampjes in zijn vleugel. (wordt gesponsort door adidas, drie oranje strepen op zijn rug

 Een 15cm wandelende tak op ons muskieten net

 

Een kameleon wat net over een stuk groen gras gelopen heeft  

En dan de spugende mozambiekse cobra in onze badkamer. Ilne ontmoete hem toen ze in de nacht Rashelle naar daar bracht. Rashelle vond hem interessant. Nee, we plaatsen geen foto. ( Dank de Heere voor bescherming)

En verder nog kikkers, schorpioenen , muizen, muskieten, goggas, andere spinnen, vleermuizen  en bidsprinkhanen

The RED of Christmas reminds us of the blood. The last few months have not been easy, as could be expected. We had to adapt and find our place. Everything is new again. But the hardest part is that we are not here giving our enemy any pleasure. So he has really been out to attack us. We have been safe only because of God’s covering of us. His blood that has flowed for us. We had a dangerous snake in the house, robbed and we are still trying to find all the scorpions. Our health is always something to pray for. So, as we enter this season of joy – please remember to not stop praying for us! We are desperate for your support!

Also thank the Lord with us, as He blesses us: we have received our work permit, the commercial farming community has taken us in and blessed us in countless ways (children’s books, meat, friendship, fruit, wireless internet, child care) and we are also becoming part of our community surrounding us, especially for medical momentsJ We really feel blessed!!

Het rode herrinert ons aan het Bloed van Christus. De laatste maanden waren niet altijd even makkelijk als verwacht. Het wennen aan een nieuwe plek, maar vooral om niet de ‘vijand’  plezier te geven. Hij heeft ons op verschillende manieren aangevallen maar we zijn veilig. We hadden een slang in ons huis, we we zijn beroofd van een telefoon in Lusaka en proberen om al de scorpioenen te krijgen. En de gezondheid is om altijd voor te bidden. Nu we het geboortefeest naderen blijf alstublieft voor ons bidden. We hebben jullie nodig!

Dank de Heere ook dat we onze werkverguning hebben gekregen, een aantal goede vrienden mochten maken en voor de zegeningen die we mochte ontvangen. Zelfs een chocolade letter en enkele andere dingen maar kijk daarvoor op www.mercy4africa.blogspot.com

sinterklaas/ Saint Nicholas

Sinterklaas.

Een vriendin van ons heft ons een paketje gestuurd  met allemaal lekkere dingetjes. O.a. een stuk speculaas en een chocoladeletter en kruidnootjes. Die laatste twee hebben we gegeten als een toetje na de maaltijd en terwijl we het eten schiet ik in de lach. Laat ik nu net vandaag de nieuwe oven te verhitten om de klei te branden tussen de stenen. Wat een zwarte piet onvriendelijke actie. Ik ben piet trouwens nog niet tegengekomen maar wel veel zwarte mensen vandaag. Als er toch een piet wil langskomen hoop ik niet dat hij zijn billen brandt in de schoorsteen (enige kleur piet)

Today they celebrate saint nicholas in Holland. We received a packet from a friend with some sweets what is common to eat at this day such as a chocolate letter and some spiced cookies. We eat them after our meal and than I got a laugh while thinking: Today I started to burn our new oven. The story goes that black peters will climb through the chimney to deliver presents. I think there will be  no presents for us.  If there is any coloured peter what wants to climb down, I don't hope he burns his bumps

 

Waar zijn we mee bezig. leert Simon nu al dansen? nee deze jongen heft gewoon een fantastische stijl om steentjes te gooien. En hij weet dat hij daarin in goed is. Hij kleedt zich nu al in de stijl van de Nederlandse olympische steentjes gooiers. Blouwe laarsjes, witte boxer short of zoiets en een rood Iron man t -shirt.

Is Simon dancing? No this boy have the ability to throw stones with style . And he knows that he is good. He dresses himself already in the Olympic style of the dutch stone throwers.
