A few home pictures
I know some of you check regularly and faithfully. And we haven't given you much to look at. Here are just some pictures of us in our normal habitat:
This is true art - he looks innocent!
We had our first school outing yesterday - to the Pepsi factory. We really enjoyed it!!
Our house is now filled with Pepsi promo stuff, though none of our children had a clue what Pepsi was;)
And lastly, our own little pirate:
OK, till next time, when we actually do something worth mentioning.
God bless!
Newsletter/ Nieuwsbrief April 2015
Without beating around any bushes: we’ll be
privileged to set up a cot in our house, one more time. We are expecting our
fourth little Paalman. Rashelle is praying hard for a little sister, but
mercifully, that is not in our hands. Ilne is feeling well, for which we are
thankful. We also found a doctor in a small town nearby that will be able to
perform the necessary ceasarian section. An older dutch midwife will check her
regularly. We are thankful for God’s provision.
Laten we meteen maar even met
de deur in huis vallen. Er moet weer een wiegje opgesteld worden. (ergens in
okt.)
voorziening.
I also want to express my thanks to everyone
who made it possible for me to visit and stay in the Netherlands. It was a big
surprise and blessing for my mom. It took her thoughts off the move to the ‘old
age home’. And it was possible for me to talk about the new project, to anyone
that would listen. From this comes a big word of thank you again to everyone
who supports us in some way- we are blessed. It’s not always comfortable to be
dependant, and then I keep forgetting: “Seek my Kingdom first, and the rest
will be added unto you.” As we get busier with this new project, it is
essential to remember, that God’s Kingdom does come first, that we need to be
salt and light, and not just the focus on the what needs to be done, but also
on the how. I want to ask for prayer, in this regard. Please!
In our church service on Sunday, a friend said
that God just reminded her of three words: IT IS FINISHED. What a wonderful message
and what an honest message. So often satan keeps un in bondage with guilt, with
all our past baggage, and we keep going in the same circle. We forget that it
is finished, He has risen after nailing every sin on the cross. Let us rejoice
in what He has done, and remember that His Grace is sufficient. This is the
beautiful message of Easter.
natuur.
Laten we ons verblijden
kruis. We mogen ons VERHEUGEN in MIJN GENADE IS GENOEG. Laten eer geven aan WIE DE EER TOEKOMT!
Meanwhile, the rain is (very) slowly reducing.
It is normally completely dry by now, but the rain seems to linger this year.
Causing lots of damage, after the relative drought of the rainy season. Many
people saw poor rains, hence very poor crops throughout southern Africa, and
are now watching it rot because they can not get it off the land, due to the
late rains. We saw them even removing the sugar by hand off the fields today.
And realize we are talking about 30 000hectares. (Of cause they will soon
start using their machines for the actual removal. They cut by hand anyway). We
are in a good position, our piece of land is small, and hence we could harvest
on dry days, and quickly replant. Using the late moisture for germination. This
will hopefully deliver some extra crop after irrigation.
Het regenseizoen is inmiddels aan het uitdunnen. Zo
Nongo
Farms cooperation is quickly getting off the ground. Carl had his first meeting
with the community- and they were quite excited. There are just so many ways to
reach out to one another. The first things that need to happen: a corn storage,
so as to help that the current crop (what little there is) does not get
destroyed by mice, weavels and other larger animals. It is not a free venture.
But for a small price they can store their maize. So, they are doing it for
themselves. Carl has hired some extra men, stretching his people’s skills.
They’ve done the foundation, and started with the floor today. The walls will
be made of steel, which Carl already has laying ready. The second priority is to prepare land for
next year, while the ground is still soft. For that end we have invested
(thanks to Hope Builders Ministries) in our first implements. It caused quite
the stir!!
Foundation for new maize store
Our first tractor for Nongo farms
Now from Ilne’s end: We’re completely into home
schooling now. Rashelle is loving it, and I’m loving it. It is such a privilege
to watch your child learn- like when they learn to walk, just watching her
trying to read the letters, and the little lightbulb going up, It’s precious.
Tim is also doing well, pleading me to also start him on the curriculum. He is
due to start next year, and he is rearing to go. Simon is completely African.
Honestly, he is never without mud streaks, we have to physically stop him from
chasing the cows around, and sometimes we just don’t even want to know where
he’s been. He talks up a storm, to whomever would like to listen.
I am busy in the house, with church stuff
(hopefully I can elaborate on this soon) and am also still trying to get
registered. They recently lost my file, which had me ready to quit, but I heard
this morning that they rediscovered it.
I wish I could share the store room with you. Anyway, I’m getting closer. I’m
not sure why God is stirring me to do this, but we will see… For the rest, all kinds of odds and ends.
The only other news I wanted to share with you,
is that our pastor in Gordon’s Bay (South Africa- when we were with Goeie Hoop
House), passed away last week. We knew he was not well and very ready to go,
but it still leaves a huge gap in the lives of his wife and children. If you
could just think of them, and pray God’s Peace on them, as they walk this part
of their journey with such faithfulness.
For the future: ahead of us lays a few hectic
months, on all fronts. Please, if you do not hear from us, it’s not because
we’re lazy, don’t care or have forgotten you. It’s because the hours in the day
ran out again. I was reading the story of Joshua praying for the sun to stand
still to Rashelle today. I might use it slightly more in the coming time. The
most prominent part of that will be a proposed travel to America in July for me
and Rashelle, for some fundraising purposes. The same Carl just did in Holland.
It will be short and (hopefully) intense. I still need all kinds of paperwork.
So, that might be another prayer point if you don’t mind.
We’ll be hosting a few people in the next
months also. I might get them to write parts of our next newsletters. Should be
interesting- I will hold the right to refuse I think. Just in case we can’t get
anyone to visit again!
It's fun out here!!!

January 2015
I will write a newsletter about the work later this month, but just wanted to assure you that we are well, and just quickly share of our photo's out of everyday life. We are blessed, happy, busy and healthy. So, if you don't hear from us often enough, it is because we have nothing to complain about.
So the boys go to school these days (two mornings of the week), while Mommy and Rashelle do our home schooling. I'm really enjoying the schooling, and Rashelle seems to tolerate it well. Only joking, she is doing very well- and has an amazing ability to concentrate.
The children have been very busy with our puppies.
And whatever else they can find Yesterday was Rashelle's sixth birthday:
Our little princess. We pray that God will lead her in inner beauty, peace, and to help her grow up, knowing who she is.

Simon's turn
So, we started Simon at the crèche today, mostly to give Mom and Rashelle a break to do their schooling at home. His teacher had her hands full!!!! He is strong willed and strong muscled. That's our boy...

Nieuwsbrief Januari 2015
corrigeren. Uiteindelijk moesten we hem
ontslaan.
geworden omgeving
‘de Honda chickenrunner’ Zambian made
Mischien moeten we later heel veel aanpassingen
is in Zambia.
Ilne is momenteel
In
We
Het zal me
jaarsdag zes kleine hondjes gekregen.
Hij noemt ze “cuties”.
‘ onze Village specials’
huiselijker voelt.
We zitten
soort kleine usb stekkers)

Newsletter
This is a time of reflection, looking back to 2014, looking ahead to 2015. A good time to think about where we are:
Where are we, physically? We just returned from South Africa. Back to Mazabuka. Myself and the children went down south for two and a half weeks, and Carl just came to pick us up. We had a great and relaxing time with my sister’s family (and a broken camera). We could do the necessary shopping, which was a great pleasure as everyone else was doing their Christmas shopping (made me miss the village a lot). Mostly we had to shop to set up the new school for the children, since our formal home schooling will commence in January. After my training in November, we are fired up and looking forward to starting that. Ask my poor family- I should be send on promotional tours, I’ll try and convince everyone of the benefits;) The boys are also ready to go back to crèche- Simon will start new, exciting!
Carl was waiting in Zambia, watching the clouds for the rain to come- and waiting and waiting and waiting. But it came- and man did it come. So, now we are actually waiting for the mud to subside to work in our gardens again. Despite the water it is not always an easy time for vegetable gardens- so I have some work too. Carl planted soya beans, maize and sunflower- mainly as chicken feed, since our chickens are doing well, and egg-selling a hit.
Where are we, emotionally? Doing very well. It has been a busy but good year. We have been involved and could see things happen and change. We could also see ourselves grow, and settle. Then it is nice to go to bed at night, knowing it is not for nothing. We have also grown in our African-ness (though I have never been anything but)- I had to share this photo with you.

It’s Carl’s
motorbike, his only transport since I had the car in South Africa. There are
four crates strapped on the back of the bike to transport his 20 new chickens.
When he was using our car to plow the other day, one of the big farmers,
smilingly commented: “Are you trying to get a short-cut to your residency?”
Belonging is the name of the game.
Where
are we, spiritually?
Also in this area, we are filled with gratitude. It was one of our greatest
needs while in Liberia, and here it has been met. We have a church family where
we can be active, and belong. But we also experience God’s presence first-hand
daily in our work and surroundings. God greatly encouraged me earlier in this year,
and now God has placed a vision in Carl’s heart. A big vision. It is not all
clear yet, so we are going to leave you wondering. If it crystallizes Carl can
write about it beginning of next month. We can see how this little piece of
land we are on, can touch many lives and people- on all levels. Isn’t that
exciting?
To God be the glory
(or as they say in many tribes around us- to God be the groly). He is the One
who holds us day by day. Is there anywhere else to be, than in His Hands??
Ps. A small testimony of how the work here
reaches our own children:
This is a sketch Rashelle made after going to a
conservation training with her father. This shows how God’s blanket works to
slow water loss, but also how God can change our heart- creating a new creature.
Carl has been doing training in the church of one of the pastors of Hope
Builders Ministries Zambia- this is an open door to willing and eager people.
We pray that 2015 will be a very special year for all of us!!!!
